Noche Buena Express: iCare’s Way of Saying “Merry Christmas”

noche-buena-express-slide
Last December 23, 2012, iCare Compassion Ministries Foundation, with the help of the Jesus is Lord Church, gave away Noche Buena Packages to 200 selected families through “Noche Buena Express” program.

100 families from San Juan, 50 from Makati and 50 from Mandaluyong, were the beneficiaries of the packed Noche Buena essentials like spaghetti noodles, sauce, cheese, coffee, and canned goods; which were given by the members of the JIL Church in Greenhills.

These were given to them through a short gift giving program at the Music Museum, where the JIL Greenhills services are held. The families, with smiles on their faces, gratefully received the packed gifts as they were given to them by the JIL Greenhills and iCare leadership.

The event was also made possible because of the active participation of the JIL Churches in Makati (Ptr. Nolan Pena), Mandaluyong (Ptra. Cannie Villar) and San Juan (Ptr. Jojo delos Reyes).
This activity clearly reflects one of the core values of the JIL Church, which is love and compassion for others. This is a way of reaching out to the needy and to the lost, most importantly, to impart to them God’s unfailing love and blessings and the matchless gift called salvation.

iCare Partners with AIA

The face of compassion comes in various forms – even through sports.

iCare, the Jesus is Lord (JIL) Church Worldwide’s compassion ministry, concluded 2011 with a distinct gift-giving program in partnership with international sports organization, Athletes in Action (AIA). iCare and AIA sponsored a Christmas gift-giving cum basketball fest in Barangay Milagrosa, Project 4, Quezon City last December 21, 2011.

This program was a blessing to 200 families who received generous noche buena packages.

aia3Coach Sebastian “Potit” De Vera, AIA national director for basketball, explained the reason behind the partnership: “For 20 years that we are here, okay yung programs namin. Andun yung harvest. Pero yung follow through, pag-nurture ng harvest ay napuputol dahil wala kaming churches na ka-partner… (For 20 years that we are here, our programs are okay. There are harvests. But the follow through, the nurturing of harvests, stops since we do not have partner churches),” he said.

“I think Bro. Eddie is the one who is very understanding, optimistic of the role of sports ministry in gathering the harvest. We needed that,” De Vera added.

AIA opened its chapter in the Philippines 20 years ago.

aia2One of the event’s highlights was the participation of popular basketball star Chris Tiu. An athlete since 10, Tiu helps AIA carry out its mission. “I believe in the thrust of the organization. You’re not just being an athlete but you are doing action – bringing something to the community, bringing God closer to people through sports,” he said.

Other AIA ambassadors in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) include Rain or Shine Elasto Painters Jeffrei Chan, Jireh Ibanez and Paul Lee; Petron Blaze Boosters Dennis “Denok” Miranda and Alex Cabagnot, among others.

“We try to share God to sports people. We try to disciple them,” coach De Vera said.

iCare Administrator Irene Mamangon said it was just the start of a partnership with AIA. “Mas marami pa kaming partnership in the future. Hindi lang Noche Buena but also some activities like helping the underprivileged. (We will have more partnerships in the future. Not just Noche Buena but also some activities like helping the underprivileged),” she said.

The fun run, organized by Athletes in Action (AIA), was held on July 7 at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig. Among others, AIA’s partners also include Fila, the Kapuso Foundation and the Department of Education, which also explains the wide participation of students from Metro Manila. In all, AIA, iCare and other partners convened 12,000 participants for the fun run.

The fun run was also made meaningful by the participation of Secretary Joel Villanueva, Director-General of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) who also extended the message of President Noynoy Aquino. Other celebrities who joined the fun run were Fila endorsers Borgy Manotoc, Georgina Wilson and Tim Yap. Cong. iCare distributes school supplies in Taguig

Consistent with its annual back-to-school ministry, iCare Compassion Ministries shared blessings to children who need help with their school supplies.

iCare, through its Founding Chairperson and President Sis. Dory Villanueva, led the distribution of school supplies to 500 children in Brgy. North Signal Village, Taguig City last June 1. The activity was part of iCare’s “Adopt a Student” program which aims to assist students and their parents in their educational needs.

Mga bata, ang inyong mga magulang ay nagpakahirap para kayo ay makapag-aral. Mag-aral kayong mabuti (Children, your parents work hard for you to go to school. Study hard.),” Sis. Dory exhorted the children.

Further, she said, “Sabi ng Bible, the children are crown to their parents. Kaya kailangang patunayan ng mga bata na sila ay tunay na crown, ginto ng kanilang mga magulang (The Bible says that children are crown to their parents. So the children should prove that they are really crowns, treasures to their parents).”

The parents who attended the iCare activity understood and supported Sis. Dory’s final reminder to the children, that the gifts they receive now are temporary. She said, “Hindi n’yo magagamit yun habangbuhay. Pero kapag ang Panginoong Hesus ang tinanggap mo sa puso mo, habang nabubuhay pagpapalain ka ng ating Panginoong Hesus (You cannot use those for life. But when you receive the Lord Jesus in your heart, He will bless you as long as you live).”
